- Description
Overview of the 130W Dual Battery Solar Charging Kit
This high-efficiency, semi-flexible 130W dual battery solar charging kit is ideal for permanent outdoor use, providing free electricity for charging 12V batteries to power various applications such as motorhomes, caravans, campervans, boats, solar lighting systems, off-grid setups, and backup solar power systems.
Kit Components:
- 130W Black Narrow Semi-Flexible Fiberglass Solar Panel: Features a durable ETFE coating.
- 10A 12V Dual Battery Solar Charge Controller: Allows independent charging of two batteries or battery banks (can also operate with a single battery).
- Pair of 5m 4.0mm² Single Core Extension Cables: Equipped with MC4 connectors.
- 5m of 4.0mm² Dual Core Battery Cable.
130W Black Narrow Semi-Flexible Fiberglass Solar Panel
This robust black narrow semi-flexible solar panel is reinforced with fiberglass and features a surface made of strong ETFE material, which offers a longer lifespan compared to standard semi-flexible panels. Consequently, these panels are exceptionally durable and less susceptible to cracking, delamination, and corrosion. The lightly textured coating provides an anti-reflective surface that enhances light absorption, increasing efficiency. ETFE is known for its durability and high-temperature resistance, having been utilized in applications like the Eden Project in Cornwall.
The panel incorporates new generation 5-busbar solar cells, which outperform the 2, 3, or 4 busbar cells commonly found in other solar panels, allowing for greater power extraction from the same surface area. This results in a more compact panel, ideal for space-constrained applications.
With a unique black backing, this panel is perfect for discreet and visually appealing installations on dark-colored roofs, vehicles, or mounting surfaces. Note that the panel is not "ultra jet-black," and the exact shade may vary slightly between panels due to the solar cell batch.
The semi-flexible design makes it suitable for curved roofs and surfaces where bonding is preferred, though it can also be secured with bolts or screws. Its narrow shape (only 505mm wide) is advantageous for installations with limited space or obstructions. Weighing just 2.38kg, it is an excellent option for all vehicle applications. Additionally, the panel is highly resistant to saltwater environments and can be walked on, making it ideal for boats and yachts.
The panel comes with 2 x 1m cables (4mm² cross-section) fitted with MC4 connectors, which easily connect to the supplied 5m extension solar cable, linking the solar panel to the charge controller.
10A Dual Battery Controller
The kit features a 10A 12V/24V dual battery solar charge controller designed to charge and protect two batteries independently, with automatic cutoff to prevent overcharging. Utilizing PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) technology, it enhances charge acceptance and extends battery life, even recovering some lost capacity.
This controller is perfect for caravans, campervans, boats, or systems with two batteries (e.g., engine and leisure batteries) or battery banks. You can set the initial charging priority, such as 80% power to the engine battery and 20% to the leisure battery. Once one battery is fully charged, the controller automatically redirects all power to the other battery.
Single Battery Operation: Yes, the controller can function with just one battery. It will automatically detect a single battery connection and direct 100% of the charging current to it, allowing for the addition of a second battery later.
The unit includes multiple safety features, such as protection against reverse current at night (from the battery back to the solar panel), overcharging, short circuits, and reverse polarity. Additional features include various LED indicators, battery type selection (sealed, gel, flooded), and an RJ-45 socket for an optional remote LCD meter with a 10m cable.
A built-in temperature sensor optimizes the charging process based on ambient temperature. If the controller is positioned far from the battery or if they are exposed to different temperatures, an external remote temperature sensor with a 3m cable is recommended. To connect to the screw terminals of the controller, the green connector block at the end of the remote temperature sensor cable should be removed.
The solar charge controller is compatible with sealed, gel, and flooded lead-acid batteries.
Additional Items
The kit also includes a pair of 5m positive and negative solar extension leads (4.0mm² cross-section) and 5m of 4.0mm² dual core battery cable for use between the solar charge controller and your battery, resulting in a total cable length of 11m (1m + 5m + 5m) between the solar panel and the battery.
